Minister Grace Fu meets Aung San Suu Kyi

SINGAPORE — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu today (Sept 20) held discussions with Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of Myanmar’s National League for Democracy.

SINGAPORE — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu today (Sept 20) held discussions with Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of Myanmar’s National League for Democracy.

Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said Ms Fu reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between Singapore and Myanmar, and conveyed the Republic’s continued commitment to support Myanmar’s economic and social development.

The pair also exchanged views on domestic developments in Myanmar and Ms Suu Kyi spoke about her work as a Member of Parliament and her thoughts on the challenges faced by the Myanmar people in this period of transition.

Separately, in a Facebook posting today, Ms Fu said they had had a good discussion about the current situation in Myanmar. She said that the Myanmar opposition leader spoke with conviction about her hopes for the country and the people.

Ms Suu Kyi is in Singapore for a five-day visit beginning today. During her visit, Ms Suu Kyi will meet Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and other Singapore leaders. She will also address the Singapore Summit tomorrow. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
