SINGAPORE — You can soon explore some of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks using an advanced mobile application.

Launched by Samsung today (May 28), Culture Explorer is a free android app which allows users to learn more about heritage sites through augmented reality — technology which allows information to be layered over the world we see.

For example, those visiting the National Museum of Singapore can discover interesting facts — such as its fish-scaled zinc tile dome — via text bubbles placed on real-time images viewed through the app.

The app, which includes interactive features like photo sharing and a message board, is targeted at the younger generation.

Singapore is the first country in the world to get the app. It features two other sites, the Singapore Botanic Gardens and Victoria Theatre & Victoria Concert Hall.
