SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 34 new cases of Covid-19 and identified three new clusters of infections, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a press release on Saturday (Sept 5).

There are three cases in the community — one Singaporean and two Work Pass holders.

All three cases are asymptomatic and were picked up as a result of proactive testing.

These cases are also currently unlinked with two cases detected as a result of rostered routine testing of workers in construction, marine and process sectors who are living outside the dormitories.

The remaining case had travelled to Malaysia but was denied entry at the airport due to administrative reasons.

He tested negative while in Malaysia and was placed on stay-home notice at a dedicated facility when he arrived in Singapore the next day, said the MOH.

He subsequently tested positive while serving his stay-home notice.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up, from an average of two cases a day in the week before to an average of three in the past week.

The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has remained stable at an average of one case per day in the past two weeks.

As for the two imported cases reported on Saturday, both had both been placed on stay-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

They are Singaporeans who returned from India on Aug 24 and Australia on Aug 25.

Of the 29 new cases involving migrant workers in dormitories, 14 had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.

The remaining 15 were detected through surveillance testing, such as the Rostered Routine Testing and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.

Serological tests came back positive in eight cases indicating that these were most likely past infections.

MOH said it had also identified three new clusters of infections at Cochrane Lodge 1 in Admiralty Road West, Mandai Lodge 1 and Tuas South Dormitory.

UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 56,982.

Of these, 56,267 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 93 on Saturday.

There are still 50 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.

Another 638 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
