SINGAPORE — Expect more rainy and warm days in the first two weeks of April, says the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS).

Short, thundery showers are forecast in the afternoon on six to eight days, with rains possibly lasting into the evening on certain days.

And on two or three mornings, widespread showers with thunder and gusty winds are expected, said MSS on Monday (April 1).

These weather conditions are a result of the inter-monsoon season, which brings more rain over Singapore and the surrounding region, explained MSS.

However, overall rainfall for the fortnight is expected to be “near-normal”, and despite the showers, warm weather will prevail with temperatures ranging from 25C to 34C on most days, said MSS.

MARCH WAS AS HOT AS YOU THOUGHT IT WAS

If you thought last month was hotter than usual, you’d be right.

According to MSS, the Northeast Monsoon’s dry phase last month resulted in drier and warmer conditions than usual.

This made March 2019 the third warmest March since temperature records began in 1929, with the highest daily maximum temperature recorded reaching at least 35C on 19 days of the month.

The recently concluded Northeast Monsoon season was also the third warmest on record, with many parts of Singapore receiving well below the normal level of rainfall last month.

Sentosa was the driest location with only 39mm of rain (80 per cent below average) recorded. Ang Mo Kio, however, received 244mm of rain — 15 per cent above average.
