SINGAPORE — Mr Murali Pillai of the People’s Action Party (PAP) was sworn in as Member of Parliament for Bukit Batok, at the start of the Parliament sitting on Monday (May 9).
Mr Murali, 48, lawyer, had won the Bukit Batok by-election with 61.2 percent of the votes on Saturday night. His opponent from the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), Dr Chee Soon Juan, garnered 38.8 per cent of votes in a one-on-one for the single member ward.
The by-election was called after the ward’s former MP David Ong resigned amid rumours that he had an extramarital affair with a grassroots volunteer.
