SINGAPORE — There will soon be a more convenient way to borrow library books.
A new application allowing users to scan the barcodes on library books — by-passing the need to use their identity card or library card at the self-service machines — will be ready next year.
The National Library Board showcased the application at the World Library and Information Congress, which is taking place from Aug 17 to 23.
National Library Board’s assistant director (library services and management) Jasna Dhansukhlal said: “It’s really for people who are on the go, to make it very convenient and accessible to all of them.
“They can check out books, they can renew their loans, they can check whether the book is available at other libraries, they can even look for similar titles.
“This will make it very convenient for people who are not able to come down to the library and would like to use the services that we have in our public libraries.” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
