SINGAPORE — Parents will have an active role to play in the new Character and Citizenship (CCE) syllabus launching in schools today (Jan 2), says Education Minister Heng Swee Keat.
Mr Heng noted that “parents are the first and most important teacher to a child” as he launched the new syllabus at Rivervale Primary School this morning.
The syllabus will be introduced in stages in Primary One, Primary Two and Secondary schools this year and will be extended to Primary three to six next year. Some chapters will feature “Family Time” where students are encouraged to share what they have learnt in school with their parents.
In a speech to parents, he also said that he hopes the syllabus will allow parents to share their own experiences with their children through this interaction.
The new syllabus will also include modules such as Education and Career Guidance, Sexuality Education and Cyber Wellness.
