22 imported Covid-19 infections in Singapore; Feb 3 community case reclassified as imported

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reclassified the sole community case reported on Wednesday (Feb 3) as an imported infection after the woman’s serology test came back positive.

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reclassified the sole community case reported on Wednesday (Feb 3) as an imported infection after the woman’s serology test came back positive.

This indicates a “likely past infection”, MOH said.

The 35-year-old woman — an Indian national who is a long-term visit pass holder here — was thus reclassified as an imported case on Thursday given her serology status as well as her recent travel history to India between Nov 30 and Jan 6.

With this, Singapore has now logged five consecutive days without a coronavirus infection in the community. The last report of community infections was on Jan 30, when there were three such cases.

In its evening update on the coronavirus situation on Thursday, MOH said that there were 22 imported cases of Covid-19.

All of the imported cases had been placed on stay-home notices or isolated upon their arrival here.

Nineteen of them had no symptoms.

The 22 imported cases were:

  • Three Singaporeans and two permanent residents who returned from India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines

  • Two dependant’s pass holders who arrived from Germany and Japan

  • Four work pass holders who came from Indonesia, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates

  • Eight work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Malaysia — six of whom are foreign domestic workers

  • Three short-term visit pass holders. All three had arrived from Indonesia. Two of them had come here to visit family members while the third had arrived for a job placement

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up slightly from one in the week before to three in the past week.

The number of cases with no links in the community has also gone up from none in the week before to two in the past week.

UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 59,624.

Of these, 59,348 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 28 on Thursday.

There are 38 patients in hospitals. “Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit,” MOH said.

Another 209 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to the disease.
