SINGAPORE — The sole community Covid-19 case reported in Singapore on Tuesday (April 27) is a 42-year-old seafarer who is linked to previously confirmed infections.

In its update of the coronavirus situation here, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the 42-year-old Indonesian man had been working on board the bunker tanker MT ALLI.

He has not disembarked from the vessel, aside from going for his Covid-19 vaccination.

The man had received his first dose of the vaccine on April 8, MOH said.

“As it typically takes a few weeks for an individual to build up immunity after completing vaccination, he was likely to have been infected before he was conferred protection after vaccination,” the ministry said.

The man had been identified as a close contact of a previously confirmed case and was placed on quarantine at a dedicated facility on April 18.

He was tested during quarantine on April 19 and his result was negative for the virus then.

He subsequently developed a cough and sore throat on April 25 and reported his symptoms where he was then taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases on April 26.

“His test result came back positive for Covid-19 infection, and his serology test is negative,” MOH said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up from nine in the week before to 11 in the past week, said MOH.

The number of cases with no known links in the community has remained stable at four a week in the past two weeks.

IMPORTED CASES

There were 11 imported cases of Covid-19 registered on Tuesday and all had been placed on stay-home notices upon their arrival here, MOH said.

They were:

  • One Singaporean and three permanent residents who returned from India, Ivory Coast and Kazakhstan

  • Two dependant’s pass holders who arrived from Nepal

  • Four work permit holders who arrived from India, Indonesia and Malaysia, one of whom is a foreign domestic worker

  • One student’s pass holder who arrived from Malaysia

UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 61,063.

Of these, 60,704 people have fully recovered and been discharged, including 22 on Tuesday.

There are still 108 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in critical condition under intensive care, MOH said.

Another 221 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Thirty people have died from complications due to the disease.
