SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 61 new cases of Covid-19, including three that are imported and two that are in the community. The remaining 56 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.

This is the first time in slightly over four months that the daily case count has dropped to double digits, since 66 infections were reported on April 6.

In a press release on Tuesday (Aug 11), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the three imported cases include two long-term visit pass holders and a dependant’s pass holder.

A dependant's pass allows the spouses and children of employment or S-pass holders to live with them in Singapore.

The three imported cases had arrived from India on July 28, 29 and 30, MOH said. They had all been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving their notices.

The two cases in the community are both Singaporeans: A one-year-old baby girl and a 30-year-old man.

They are both linked to previous cases or clusters, MOH said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases a day in the past two weeks.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of one case a day in the past 14 days.

“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.

TESTING OF WORKERS IN DORMITORIES COMPLETED

MOH reiterated that the inter-agency task force has completed the testing of all workers in the dormitories.

“There are currently about 22,500 workers who are still serving out their quarantine period,” it said.

“These workers will be tested when their isolation ends, and we expect the case counts to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter.”

Separately, the Ministry of Manpower said that with effect from Tuesday, all dormitories here have been declared cleared of Covid-19, with the exception of 17 standalone blocks in six purpose-built dormitories which serve as quarantine centres.

MOH said that the inter-agency task force handling the infection controls at foreign worker dormitories has been “systematically and progressively clearing dormitories through aggressive testing of migrant workers residing in dormitories”.

As a result, as of Tuesday, 37 more dormitories have been cleared of the disease and now house only recovered individuals and those who have recently tested negative for coronavirus. They are no longer classified as a cluster.

UPDATES ON THE REMAINING CASES

In all, the total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 55,353.

Of these, 50,128 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 519 on Tuesday.

There are still 104 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in critical condition under intensive care.

Another 5,094 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
