SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 77 new cases of Covid-19, including five that are imported and two that are in the community. The remaining 70 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.

In a press release on Thursday (Aug 27), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the five imported cases comprise one Singaporean, one permanent resident, one dependant’s pass holder, one long-term visit pass holder and one special pass holder.

The special pass holder is a 54-year-old Filipino man who had arrived in Singapore from India on Aug 8 on a vessel, which he had not disembarked from, MOH said.

He was a close contact of previous cases on the same vessel earlier announced by the ministry, and had been placed on quarantine. He was then tested during quarantine to determine his status.

The remaining four imported cases had returned from India and China between Aug 14 and 16.

The two cases in the community involved a 31-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy. Both are citizens, the health ministry said.

The woman was found to have visited SLR Revolution at Excelsior Shopping Centre on Aug 17 and “may have had contact” with a previous case “who had gone to work at the shop during his infectious period”.

As a precautionary measure, MOH will be contacting all individuals who had visited the shop between Aug 15 and 18 Aug, and facilitating Covid-19 testing for them.

“We advise all visitors to SLR Revolution at Excelsior Shopping Centre during the affected dates to monitor their health and seek medical attention promptly should they develop acute respiratory infection symptoms,” MOH said.

The ministry said that investigations are ongoing for the unlinked case.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from an average of one case a day to an average of two cases a day in the past two weeks, MOH said.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at an average of one case a day in the past 14 days.

Of the 70 fresh cases involving migrant workers in dormitories, 66 had been identified earlier as contacts of earlier cases.

The remaining four were detected through surveillance testing.

MOH added that 41 more migrant worker dormitories have been cleared of the disease and now house only recovered individuals and those who have recently tested negative for the coronavirus. They are no longer classified as a cluster.

UPDATES ON THE REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 56,572.

Of these, 55,139 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 168 on Thursday.

There are still 66 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.

Another 1,340 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities.

Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
