SINGAPORE — Two new Covid-19 clusters were reported on Saturday (Aug 28), one linked to the Jurong East Bus Interchange and the other to Homestay Lodge, a migrant workers’ dormitory in Kaki Bukit.
The new cluster at Jurong East means that there are now six bus interchanges across Singapore that are active coronavirus clusters.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) earlier reported a cluster at Clementi Bus Interchange on Friday and clusters at the Punggol and Toa Payoh bus interchanges on Thursday. Covid-19 clusters were reported at Bishan and Sengkang bus interchanges earlier this month.
The Jurong East Bus Interchange cluster now has 14 cases, with 11 of these recorded on Saturday.
For the other bus interchanges, one case was added to the interchange at Clementi, three to Toa Payoh, four to Punggol and one to Sengkang.
There are now 124 Covid-19 cases linked to the bus interchange clusters.
With Homestay Lodge identified as a new cluster, there are now also six dormitories linked to an active Covid-19 cluster.
The five others are: Tuas South Lodge, North Coast Lodge in Woodlands, 43 Sungei Kadut Loop dormitory, Westlite Mandai as well as Westlite Juniper, also in Mandai.
The cluster at Homestay Lodge now has five cases with three of them recorded on Saturday.
In total, there are 249 cases linked to the dormitory clusters so far.
SERIOUSLY ILL
Data from MOH showed that there are six patients under intensive care, unchanged from Friday.
There are 16 patients who are in serious condition and need oxygen support to help them breathe, up from the 13 reported on Friday.
Among these 16 patients with serious illness and the six under intensive care, five are fully vaccinated.
Of those who have fallen very ill, 16 are patients aged above 60, of whom 11 are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated.
MOH stressed that there is continuing evidence that “almost all fully vaccinated individuals do not suffer serious disease when infected unless they had underlying medical conditions that made them more susceptible”.
Over the last 28 days, the proportion of unvaccinated patients who became severely ill or died is 9.2 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 1.2 per cent.
There are 389 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised as of Saturday.
66 ACTIVE CLUSTERS
Two clusters have closed and there are now 66 active Covid-19 clusters here, each having between three and 1,155 cases.
Earlier on Saturday, MOH said that there were 113 new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 for the day, with 25 linked to Bugis Junction mall. The cluster now has 176 cases.
For the rest of the 88 cases, 59 were linked to previous infections — with 32 already quarantined and 27 detected through surveillance testing, MOH said.
Another 29 were not linked to any earlier reported cases.
There were eight imported cases, four of which were both detected on arrival in Singapore and another four who developed the illness during stay-home notice or isolation.
In all, there were 113 new cases recorded on Friday.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up from 260 in the week before to 551 in the past week.
The number of cases with no known links in the community has also risen from 82 in the week before to 144 in the past week.
The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 58.1 and 20.6 respectively.
Singapore has seen a total of 67,171 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic.
