SINGAPORE — Singapore reported 48 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday (Jan 24), all of which were imported.

This equals the record for imported cases set on March 23 last year.

The 48 reported on Sunday had already been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

Forty-one of them had no symptoms, the Ministry of Health said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from eight cases in the week before to 15 in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has decreased from four cases in the week before to three in the past week.

Among the 48 imported cases:

• Four are permanent residents who returned from India, Indonesia and Malaysia

• Four are dependant’s pass holders who arrived from France, India and the UAE

• One is a long-term visit pass holder who came from India

• Two are student’s pass holders who arrived from Egypt and India

• Eleven are work pass holders who came from Bangladesh, Colombia, France, India, Nigeria and the UAE

• Twenty-two are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines, of whom 10 are foreign domestic workers

• Three are short-term visit pass holders

• One is a sea crew holding a special pass who arrived onboard a vessel from Malaysia and had not disembarked

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore now stands at 59,308.

Twenty-six more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the total who have fully recovered to 59,041.

There are 50 patients who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 188 people with mild symptoms, or who are clinically well but still test positive for the disease, are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
