Three imported cases from India among 169 new Covid-19 infections

SINGAPORE — Three imported cases who had returned to Singapore from India were among the 169 new Covid-19 infections reported in the country on Friday (July 3).

SINGAPORE — Three imported cases who had returned to Singapore from India were among the 169 new Covid-19 infections reported in the country on Friday (July 3).

In a press release, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that aside from the three imported cases, there were 11 new community cases while the remaining 155 infections were linked to workers living in dormitories.

MOH said that the three imported cases — two of whom are Singaporeans and the other a permanent resident — had arrived in Singapore on June 21.

They were placed on stay-home notice upon their arrival and were taken to a facility to begin their 14-day isolation.

“They are asymptomatic, and had been tested while serving their stay-home notice,” MOH said.

Of the 11 cases in the community, nine are linked to previous cases or clusters while the other two have no known links to past infections, MOH said.

Overall, the health ministry said that the number of new cases in the community has increased from an average of five a day in the week before to nine a day in the past week.

It added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from an average of two a day in the week before to four a day in the past week.

TESTS IN TAMPINES

MOH said that it had previously placed 58 households residing at Block 111 Tampines Street 11 under active phone surveillance and is facilitating Covid-19 testing for them and their visitors.

This was after the health ministry detected nine confirmed cases from two households residing at the block.

“As these households and visitors are not close contacts of the confirmed cases, they are assessed to have a low risk of being infected. Of the 85 tests that have been completed so far, all the results have come back negative for Covid-19,” MOH said.

UPDATE ON THE REST OF THE CASES

In all, MOH said that 39,769 people have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 340 on Friday.

There are currently 223 patients who are hospitalised.  Of these, most are in stable condition or are improving, and one patient is in critical condition under intensive care.

MOH said that 4,461 people are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-six people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
