SINGAPORE — A woman who works at a Guardian pharmacy, a janitor as well as a seafarer were the three Covid-19 community cases reported on Friday (June 11). All three have no known sources of infection to past cases.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the 57-year-old Singaporean woman works at the pharmacy’s outlet at Ion Orchard mall. The woman developed a dry throat on June 7 but did not see a doctor until three days later when she went to a polyclinic after she developed an earache.

The janitor is a 50-year-old Singaporean woman employed by commercial cleaning company Campaign Complete Solutions. She works at Raffles City Tower and One Raffles Quay.

MOH said that the woman’s case was detected when she was tested for Covid-19 on June 10 as part of surveillance testing for mall cleaners.

She did not have any symptoms and had been fully vaccinated, the ministry added.

The third case in the community is a 38-year-old Indonesian man employed by Marina Offshore as a seafarer on board tugboat Marina Ariel.

The man developed a fever on June 7 but did not seek medical attention.

He then developed a loss of smell and taste on June 9, followed by headache and chills the next day.

“He reported his symptoms on June 10, and was (taken) to a hospital and tested for Covid-19. Prior to that, he had not disembarked from the vessel,” said MOH.

There were six imported infections, making up a total of nine cases reported on Friday.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has plunged from 139 in the week before to 36 in the past week.

The number of cases with no known links in the community has also gone down from 23 in the week before to nine in the past week.

In a separate statement on Friday, MOH said that it has concluded its testing operations in the vicinity of Hougang Avenue 8.

A total of 4,384 people had stepped forward for the voluntary testing and all of them have tested negative for Covid-19.

IMPORTED CASES

The six new cases were all placed on stay-home notice upon their arrival here, MOH said.

They were:

  • Three Singaporeans and two permanent residents who returned from India and the United States

  • One special pass holder who is a seafarer. He arrived from Indonesia on a vessel and was tested onboard without disembarking

UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 62,245.

Of these, 61,799 people have fully recovered and been discharged, including 34 on Friday.

There are still 133 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition.

Another 279 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Thirty-four people have died from complications due to the disease.
