SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 214 new cases of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Monday (June 15).

This is the lowest daily count reported since June 9, which had 218 cases.

In its media statement, MOH said that there were three cases in the community and they were all work permit holders who were detected as a result of efforts to screen workers in essential services, even though they are asymptomatic.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down slightly, from an average of nine cases a day in the week before to an average of eight a day in the past week.

The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also decreased from an average of four cases a day in the week before to an average of three a day in the past week.

“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.

The remaining 211 infections reported on Monday were all linked to foreign workers living in dormitories.

“We continue to pick up cases among work permit holders residing in the dormitories, including in factory-converted dormitories, because of extensive testing on these premises, as part of our process to verify and test the status of all workers,” MOH said.

ONE NEW CLUSTER IDENTIFIED

The inter-agency task force looking into the well-being of migrant workers has been systematically and progressively clearing dormitories to declare them free of Covid-19, through aggressive testing of migrant workers residing in these places, MOH said.

The one at Westlite Juniper (23 Mandai Estate) and the dormitory at 21 Defu South Street 1 have been cleared, and now house only recovered individuals and those who have recently tested negative for Covid-19. They are thus no longer classified as a cluster now.

However, MOH has identified the formation of a new cluster of infections in a dormitory located at 23 Tech Park Crescent in Tuas.

UPDATE ON ST ANTHONY’S CANOSSIAN SCHOOL

The 47 students and 12 staff members from St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School have been tested for Covid-19, and their test results have all come back negative, MOH said.

It was reported on Saturday that a student from the school had tested positive for the coronavirus and as a precaution, the 47 students and 12 staff members who had been in close contact with the student have been put on leave of absence by the Ministry of Education or were quarantined by MOH.

UPDATE ON REST OF THE CASES

The total number of infections here now stands at 40,818 as of Monday.

Of these, 30,366 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 777 on Monday.

There are still 243 patients in hospitals but most are in stable condition or improving.

Two patients are in critical condition under intensive care.

Another 10,183 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are patients who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-six people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
