  • There were four Covid-19 cases reported on June 9
  • Of these, two were in the community, one of which had no link to past cases

  • The number of cases with no known links in the community has plunged from 26 in the week before to six in the past week

SINGAPORE — A repairman who works for a construction company in Sungei Kadut was the sole Covid-19 community case with no known source of infection on Wednesday (June 9).

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the 29-year-old Myanmar national — who works for Grandwork Interior — developed a fever on June 1 and went to see a doctor that same day.

He then returned to the clinic three days later after he developed body aches.

“On both occasions, he was not tested for Covid-19,” MOH said.

The man was later detected when he was tested for the virus on June 5 as part of the ministry’s routine testing of workers. His previous test — the last of which was on May 8 — were all negative for Covid-19, MOH said.

The man was one of two Covid-19 cases in the community — the second has been linked to the NTUC Foodfare coffee-shop cluster in Sengkang.

The cluster now has 13 cases after a 21-year-old Malaysian man who works as a kitchen assistant at the Rice Garden stall there tested positive on June 8.

Another two cases were imported, making up a total of four cases reported for the day.

Wednesday’s tally was the lowest since Feb 23, when there were four cases.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from 126 in the week before to 71 in the past week.

The number of cases with no known links in the community has plunged from 26 in the week before to six in the past week, MOH said.

IMPORTED CASES

The two new cases were all placed on stay-home notice upon their arrival here, MOH said.

They were a Singaporean man who returned from Iraq as well as a permanent resident who came back from India.

UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 62,223.

Of these, 61,740 people have fully recovered and been discharged, including 38 on Wednesday.

There are still 158 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition.

Another 291 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Thirty-four people have died from complications due to the disease.
