Covid-19: GovTech employee, worker at dorm among 3 unlinked locally transmitted cases

SINGAPORE — A woman who works at the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), a man who works at a workers’ dormitory as well as a retiree were the three new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases on Thursday (May 27) that have not been traced to any source of infection.

  • There were 24 Covid-19 cases reported on May 27
  • Of these, 14 were in the community, two of which had no links to past cases
  • There were nine imported cases and one in a migrant workers’ dormitory
  • The number of cases with no known sources of infection has gone down from 43 in the week before to 26 in the past week

 

SINGAPORE — A woman who works at the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), a man who works at a workers’ dormitory as well as a retiree were the three new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases on Thursday (May 27) that have not been traced to any source of infection.

The GovTech employee, a 43-year-old Singaporean woman, was last at work on May 7, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

The retiree is a 67-year-old Singaporean man.

The man who works at Harvest@Woodlands dormitory, a 42-year-old Bangladeshi, is employed by Teng Feng Engineering, which deals in air-conditioning and ventilation systems.

The worker stays at Woodlands Lodge 2 dormitory and has reported that he did not interact with infected persons from the Harvest@Woodlands dormitory cluster.

Twelve other new cases had links to past cases.

Three were traced to a 31-year-old Singaporean man who is employed by cleaning solutions provider Hong Ye Group as a cleaner at Changi Business Park. He was confirmed infected on May 19 and the cluster now has six cases.

Another three were linked to a 57-year-old administrative worker at law firm Pacific Law Corporation. This cluster now has seven cases.

There were nine new cases that were imported.

MOH said that 15 of the total 24 cases confirmed on Thursday had no symptoms and were detected from proactive screening and surveillance.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from 190 in the week before to 152 in the past week.

The number of cases with no known links in the community has also gone down from 43 in the week before to 26 in the past week.

MOH added that one cluster that was linked to a 79-year-old India national has been closed because there have been no new infections from the group for the past 28 days.

CLEANERS FROM HONG YE GROUP

The three new cases in this cluster were similarly employed by Hong Ye Group as cleaners at Changi Business Park, just like the first confirmed case.

The three are Singaporeans: A 56-year-old woman and two men aged 25 and 58.

PACIFIC LAW CORPORATION CLUSTER

  • A 76-year-old Singaporean man who is employed by Clean Solutions as a cleaner at Henry Park Primary School

  • A 43-year-old Singaporean man who works as a retail assistant at audio-visual equipment store Alpha Audio

  • A 74-year-old Singaporean woman who is a homemaker

CHANGI PRISON COMPLEX CLUSTER

A 61-year-old Singaporean man who is an inmate has been added to this cluster. 

TEKTRONIX CLUSTER

A 43-year-old permanent resident who works at industrial equipment distributor Tektronix Southeast Asia has been linked to a Singaporean man who works as an engineer at the same company. This cluster now has three confirmed cases.

CASES NOW LINKED TO PAST INFECTIONS

  • A 55-year-old Singaporean man who works as a despatch rider for lending company MV Credit

  • A 53-year-old Singaporean man who works as a driver with Kim Transport and is a part-time private-hire car driver with Grab

  • A 55-year-old Singaporean man who works as a freelance handyman

  • A 50-year-old Singaporean man who works at movers company Assalaamu’alaikum Enterprise

IMPORTED CASES

The nine new cases were all placed on stay-home notice upon their arrival here, MOH said.

They were:

  • Five Singaporeans and two permanent residents who returned from India

  • One short-term visit pass holder who came from Indonesia to visit her family member here

  • One special pass holder who is a seafarer. The man arrived from Indonesia on a vessel and was tested when he was hospitalised for a medical condition that was unrelated to Covid-19

UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 61,940.

Of these, 61,372 people have fully recovered and been discharged, including 12 on Thursday.

There are still 245 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and two are in critical condition.

Another 291 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Thirty-two people have died from complications due to the disease.
