SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 63 new cases of Covid-19, including six that are imported and two that are in the community. The remaining 55 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its press release on Thursday (Sept 10) that among the fresh cases, a majority — or 56 infections — are asymptomatic.

It has also identified two new clusters of infections in foreign worker dormitories: The Avery Lodge Dormitory and the PPT Lodge 1A.

Of the 55 cases in dormitories, 26 are from Avery Lodge Dormitory. They had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases and most of them had been placed on quarantine earlier and were tested during quarantine to determine their status.

The remaining 29 were detected through surveillance testing, such as the ministry's fortnightly Rostered Routine Testing and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.

One of the cases in the community is a 33-year-old male Chinese national who is a work permit holder with no known links to past cases.

The other is a 36-year-old Singaporean man linked to previous imported cases who are his family members.

They had returned from India on Aug 24 and had been placed in dedicated facilities upon their arrival here.

MOH said that while the man had not travelled overseas with his family, “he had requested to take care of his spouse and young children at the facility”.

He has been isolated with them since Aug 24.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from an average of three cases a day in the week before to an average of two a day in the past week.

The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also gone down from an average of two cases a day in the week before to an average of one a day in the past week.

The six new imported cases comprise one Singaporean, two work pass holders, two work permit holders and one student’s pass holder.

They had arrived in Singapore from Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines, Russia and the United Arab Emirates between Aug 27 and 31.

All of them had been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving their notices at dedicated facilities.

UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 57,229.

Of these, 56,558 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 66 on Thursday.

There are still 47 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.

Another 597 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
