SINGAPORE — Singapore has a new Covid-19 cluster of 14 cases linked to Changi General Hospital (CGH), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Friday (Sept 3).

In its nightly update on the coronavirus situation, MOH said that 11 new cases were detected in the cluster.

There are now two active Covid-19 clusters linked to the hospital. The first cluster has a total of four cases as of Friday.

The ministry said earlier in the day that Singapore registered 216 new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19, including 109 not linked to earlier infections.

Of the 107 linked to confirmed cases, 56 had already been quarantined and 51 were detected through surveillance testing.

Among the cases are two seniors above the age of 70 who are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness.

Along with three imported cases, there were a total of 219 new cases for the day.

This is the highest single-day tally recorded since Aug 7 last year, when there were 242 infections.

The number of cases linked to Covid-19 clusters at bus interchanges has grown to 377 with another 29 added.

SERIOUSLY ILL

Data from MOH showed that the number of patients who are in serious condition and need oxygen support to help them breathe has dipped to 20, down from 27 the day before.

The number of patients who are in intensive care units has remained at five since Aug 30.

Among these five patients and the 20 with serious illness, 10 are fully vaccinated.

Of those who have fallen very ill, 19 are patients aged above 60, of whom 11 are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated patients who became severely ill or died is 7.3 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 1.1 per cent.

There are 580 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised as of Friday, up from 528 the day before.

59 ACTIVE CLUSTERS

MOh said that seven clusters have been closed, so there are now 59 active clusters, each having between three and 1,155 cases.

Eight more cases were added to the cluster at Toa Payoh Bus Interchange, the largest among the various interchanges with 115 now.

For the rest of the interchanges:

The Bugis Junction mall cluster has grown to 254 cases with seven more added.

MOH had earlier reported that among the 216 locally transmitted cases on Friday, 109 were not linked to earlier infections.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has more than doubled from 484 in the week before to 1,020 in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also more than tripled from 126 in the week before to 401 in the past week.

The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases is 88.4 and 57.3 respectively.

Singapore has recorded a total of 68,210 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic.
