Over 1,450 new weekly trips added to Sengkang/Punggol LRT

SINGAPORE — SBS Transit will introduce 1,464 more weekly trips to the Punggol and Sengkang LRT systems from June 24 to cater to growing ridership.

SINGAPORE — SBS Transit will introduce 1,464 more weekly trips to the Punggol and Sengkang LRT systems from June 24 to cater to growing ridership.

On the Punggol East LRT, there will be 45 additional train trips per week from 6am to 9.30am on weekdays. “This will reduce waiting time for commuters by up to 2 minutes,” said SBS Transit in a statement.

In the evenings, another 24 trips a week will be added from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on weekdays, cutting waiting time by up to 3 minutes, said the operator. In addition, another 950 new trips a week will be added to the schedule on both weekdays and weekends.

On the Sengkang East LRT, 120 more trips will be added from 6am to 9.30am on weekday mornings, and 80 additional trips will be added between 8.30pm and 9.30pm. On weekends and public holidays, 85 additional trips will be operated each day.

On the Sengkang West LRT, there will be 60 more trips from 6am to 9.30am, and 15 new trips between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, from Monday to Friday.

SBS Transit said the average daily ridership, as of April, on the Punggol East and Sengkang LRT systems have increased 12 per cent and 11.7 per cent respectively since December last year.
