Sex-for-contracts case: Lim gets 6 months

SINGAPORE — Peter Lim Sin Pang, the former Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), has been sentenced to six months’ jail today (June 13) in the sex-for-contracts case.

SINGAPORE — Peter Lim Sin Pang, the former Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), has been sentenced to six months’ jail today (June 13) in the sex-for-contracts case. Lim's lawyers will be applying to study the judgment and have not decided if they should appeal. They have 14 days to decide. Lim is out on S$15,000 bail. Lim, 52, was found guilty on May 31 of corruptly obtaining oral sex from the ex-General Manager of Nimrod Engineering, Ms Pang Chor Mui, in exchange for business favours with the SCDF. He also admitted to the facts in seven similar corruption charges last week involving two other women: Ms Kelly Lee Wei Hoon, the Director of Singapore Radiation Centre and Ms Esther Goh Tok Mui, the Director of Business Development of NCS. Last Friday, the Prosecution called for Lim to be sentenced to five months jail saying that a deterrent sentence was necessary. However, Lim’s lawyers Hamidul Haq and K Bala Chandran pleaded for a “hefty fine” or a short jail term as Lim’s offence falls “within the lower end of the spectrum of criminality”. Speaking to reporters outside the court room, they said that the sentencing is "excessive" and "disappointing" and have filed a notice of appeal. Lim has also been discharged on the remaining two charges amounting to an acquittal.
