SINGAPORE – Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will touch on issues that “are on people’s minds” in his National Day Rally speech on Sunday (Aug 19) evening.

In a short video clip posted on Facebook on Friday, Mr Lee said he will be talking about the cost of living, water and electricity prices, medical costs and housing.

“It’s been a busy year for Singapore, on a whole, a good year… Domestically, we are working hard, improving people’s lives, addressing problems, preparing to grow further,” he added.

On the global front, Mr Lee said changes are underway and the government is watching these developments closely.

In his National Day message last week, Mr Lee also acknowledged public concerns over the cost of living, citing education, healthcare and housing as the three "significant items" which Singaporeans fret about.

The Government has been keeping these key public services affordable and of high quality "for all Singaporeans, rich or poor".

"This is how we have helped families to manage their cost of living and given an extra hand to those who need it. For more than five decades, this approach has worked well," Mr Lee had said.

On Sunday, the National Day Rally will begin at 6.45pm, where Mr Lee will start speaking in Malay, followed by Mandarin before his English speech at 8.15pm.

His speech at the rally is considered to be the most important political speech of the year.
