SINGAPORE — A platform along the Punggol East LRT line was closed for urgent maintenance on Wednesday (Jan 8) night after a crack was discovered on part of the track.
At around 2.15pm, an SBS Transit staff member first spotted the crack on one of the elevated concrete slabs — known as plinths — on which the LRT’s light rail vehicles run.
SBS Transit said that the “isolated” crack was located between the Riviera and Coral Edge stations.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, the transport operator said that one platform would close early from 9pm to 4am for urgent maintenance. Trains continued running on other platforms and served all stations on the loop, it added.
Ms Tammy Tan, SBS Transit’s senior vice-president of corporate communications, said in response to queries from TODAY: “There were no safety concerns but if left unrectified, the crack might develop further which could result in train services being disrupted.”
The crack has since been rectified and train services have begun as usual as of Thursday morning, she added.
