SINGAPORE — Rainy days are back again.

For the next two weeks, the weather man is forecasting short, thundery showers — mostly in the late morning and afternoon — but is also warning of warmer days ahead.

The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said in an advisory on Thursday (June 14) evening that the second half of this month is expected to be wetter than the first half.

For the coming fortnight, the short-duration, thundery showers are expected on five to seven days.

On two to three other days, "widespread thundery showers accompanied with the occasional gusty winds can be expected between predawn hours and morning", the service added.

This is because south-west monsoon conditions have set in over the Republic, and the surrounding region, and will last till September.

Despite the wet weather ahead, the MSS said warm days are to be expected.

The daily maximum temperature on a few days in the next fortnight could hit a high of around 35°C, with daily temperatures for the rest of the period to range between 25°C and 34°C.

"The nights can be relatively warm, in particular on non-rain days," the service added.

For the first half of June, the weather man said that the widespread thundery showers — accompanied by gusty winds — on June 1 and 2 were the result of Sumatra squalls in the region.

The thundery showers were heaviest on June 2, during which the Jurong East region had the highest recorded daily rainfall total of 92.2mm.

"The wet weather experienced on the first few days of the month was followed by several days of dry and warm weather conditions due to stable atmospheric conditions over Singapore and the surrounding region," the service said on Thursday.

The highest temperature in the first half of June was recorded at the Marina Barrage area: the mecury hit a high of 35°C on June 6.
