SINGAPORE — Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat has urged Singaporeans to be cautious of fake news reports containing “misleading comments” attributed to him circulating online.

In a Facebook post on Friday (May 17), Mr Heng shared a screenshot of an article carrying a CNN logo with the headline: "Minister of Finance Heng Swee Keat invested 6 million dollars in a new company that can make you rich”.

In his post, Mr Heng, who is also Finance Minister, said the report was untrue and urged the public to “exercise caution”, especially before providing personal and financial details such as credit card numbers and passwords.

This follows a similar alert raised in a Facebook post by Manpower Minister Josephine Teo two days ago.

Mrs Teo said that her name was used by a fraudulent website to solicit personal or financial information from users.
