Rise in number of workplace injuries in first 6 months this year: Report

SINGAPORE – The total number of reported workplace injuries for the first half of this year had risen by 14 per cent compared to a year ago, with a one-fifth jump in workplace fatalities from 25 to 30 this year.

All sectors saw an increase in fatalities, as the construction sector remained as the main contributor of workplace fatalities, with 17 cases this year. Numbers have also doubled for the logistics and transport sector this year, with six fatalities.

Apart from fatal injuries, the latest Workplace Safety and Health Statistics Report released today (Sept 10) also showed sharp increase in minor injuries, from the previous 5,249 cases to 6,005 this year. The number of reported major injuries also saw a bump, from 273 cases to 279.

Despite the overall increase, the number of reported occupational diseases saw a drop from 474 last year to 423 cases this year.
