SINGAPORE – For the first time in Singapore, visitors to the River Safari will be able to see the red-backed bearded saki monkey, collared peccary, and red howler monkey as they take a boat ride down a 483m man-made river.
The Amazon River Quest, the latest attraction at the River Safari, was launched and opened to the public today (Dec 7) by Wildlife Reserves Singapore.
The 12-minute boat ride simulates an open-top boat voyage down the Amazon River. Aimed at showcasing the rich diversity in the Amazon basin, visitors will be able to catch a glimpse of over 30 animal species such as flamingos, jaguars and the giant anteater.
Be warned though, the boat ride includes some gentle plunges which might get some visitors a little wet.
Chief Executive of Singapore Tourism Board Lionel Yeo, who was Guest-of-Honour, said this new attraction is “icing on the cake” for the River Safari and that it will be able to attract Singaporeans and visitors.
“It’s something which is unusual, it’s something which is different from the rest of the experience going around the River Safari,” said Mr Yeo, who arrived with his family.
“I think we have a cutting edge that is a whole interplay of nature, water, excitement and real animals,” said Ms Claire Chiang, Chairman of Wildlife Reserves Singapore. “This ride of River Safari is unique in the sense that it’s the first in Asia - a fresh water park.” she added.
Ms Chiang, who hopes that people will appreciate the thought and commitment that has gone into the development of the park, said there will be no adjustments to prices just yet.
Tickets will continue to be priced at a discounted rate of S$25 for adults, S$16 for children between 3-12 years old and S$12.50 for local senior citizens, before eventually being priced at S$35 for adults, S$23 for children between 3-12 years old and S$17.50 for senior citizens.
Said Ms Chiang: “We really hope to capitalise on school holidays so families can come and enjoy this place because this is really what I always call, you know, the people’s park.”
