SINGAPORE — A 68-year-old man has died from his injuries, eight days after he was thrown off balance onboard an SBS Transit bus when it braked suddenly to avoid an accident.

His daughter, Ms Siah Hwan Ling, posted a comment on her Facebook account early on Thursday (Sept 16) morning, saying: “Sorry, everyone, thank you for all the prayers. We really appreciate it. My father didn’t make it. He has passed away.”

In response to TODAY’s queries on Thursday night, Ms Tammy Tan, SBS Transit’s senior vice-president of corporate communications, said: “We are very sorry to learn of Mr Siah’s passing and are assisting the family during this difficult time.”

Mr Siah Keok Tiang was onboard bus service 175 on Sept 8.

The bus was travelling straight along North Bridge Road when a car in the next lane “suddenly cut” into the bus’ lane and brushed against the front of the bus, Ms Tan from SBS Transit said previously.

Mr Siah was seated on the first seat near the front door and had just stood up to prepare to alight. He then lost his footing and was thrown forward.

The driver then immediately stopped the bus and contacted the operations control centre, which called an ambulance that took him to a hospital.

The police later arrested a 43-year-old male car driver for careless driving causing grievous hurt.

Police investigations are ongoing.

TODAY has reached out to Ms Siah for comments.
