SINGAPORE — A fire broke out at Ban Heng restaurant at the void deck of a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat in Boon Keng on Monday (Nov 23) — the second fire at the premises in less than three years.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they were alerted to the fire at Block 22 Boon Keng Road at about 5.10pm.

SCDF said that the fire, which involved the kitchen exhaust ducting, was extinguished by its officers using a hose reel and a water jet.

Before the SCDF’s arrival, 20 people had self-evacuated from the area.

The authorities said that there were no reported injuries.

Videos shared on social media showed smoke billowing up the HDB block from the kitchen exhaust ducting that had caught fire.

Several firemen can be seen rushing to put out the fire as members of the public looked on.

Social media users commented that this was not the first time that the restaurant had caught fire.

In January 2018, CNA reported that a fire had broken out at the same restaurant then.

The fire had involved an exhaust duct at the restaurant.

SCDF said on Monday that the cause of fire for the latest incident is under investigation.
