SINGAPORE — Scoot has been named as 2016’s best low cost airline for the Asia Pacific region at the Airline Excellence Awards by AirlineRatings.com.

The awards, announced yesterday (Dec 1), celebrates and promotes excellence in the airline industry.

In a statement, Airlineratings.com said that Scoot “has stamped itself as a benchmark of low cost travel with a high value proposition and has shown that low cost travel does not need to be low service with a wide range of options to suit the most discerning traveller.”

Airlineratings.com editor Geoffrey Thomas added: “Travellers tell us — and we have found — that Scoot is full of value surprises that turn low cost travel into a pleasure. A low cost airline utilising larger aircraft such as the 787 will always result in greater comfort and passenger satisfaction — it’s an excellent recipe for success.”

This is the second time running that Scoot has won the award. The 2014 award was given to the Jetstar Asia.

Meanwhile, Air New Zealand was named as airline of the year “for its continuous passenger innovations, environmental commitment, record-breaking financial performance, operational safety and motivation of its staff that have cemented the airline an industry trendsetter”.

Singapore Airlines was also recognised for having the best business class and the best in-flight entertainment.

Airlineratings.com is a website formed by a team of aviation editors which provides ratings on nearly every airline in the world.
