SINGAPORE – In his parliamentary speech today (Sept 9), Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen said various options are being considered to allow more Singaporeans to attend the National Day Parade (NDP) next year.
The organising committee is evaluating various options to achieve this, such as increasing the seating capacity at the Padang or creating satellite viewing platforms throughout the Marina Bay area during the preview and show.
Asked whether the government will consider having two NDP preview shows, Dr Ng said: “To add another show is based on an issue of logistics. There can only be so many shows when you are ready to show the public and with the time given…it may be very taxing for participants who would require some rest before the actual NDP Show.”
Currently, there are four shows open prior to the actual NDP, with three National Education Shows for school students and the NDP Preview.
“We are also working with the People’s Association on activities to celebrate National Day in Heartland locations,” added Dr Ng.
