SINGAPORE — A fake memo bearing the logo of the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and saying that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has tested positive for Covid-19 is “totally untrue”, the hospital said on Friday (April 3).

Noting that the fake memo has been circulating on social media and text messaging platforms, SGH said in a Facebook post: “We urge the public to be socially responsible and not to circulate this fake news.”

The fake memo began circulating on Friday, before Mr Lee announced that he would be giving an update to the nation at 4pm about the Covid-19 crisis.

While the situation is under control, he said “we want to take a few more steps now”.

Separately, the chief executive officer of FairPrice Group, Mr Seah Kian Peng, noted on Friday that there was increased buying at FairPrice supermarkets on Friday, and he reassured the public that there was no need to worry.

“There is no need to rush to buy today or for that matter this weekend as ALL our stores will remain open come what may,” he wrote on Facebook.
