SINGAPORE — From Dec 1, Singaporeans aged 18 and above will be able to redeem their S$100 SingapoRediscovers Vouchers online through five authorised booking platforms.

The five authorised booking platforms for Singaporeans to redeem their vouchers are:

  • Changi Travel Services, known also as Changi Recommends

  • GlobalTix

  • Klook

  • Traveloka

  • Trip.com

The platforms will list a range of activities that the public may choose, including heritage tours and staycation packages that bundle a hotel stay with a visit to an attraction.

To redeem their vouchers, Singaporeans must know how to access the national passcode system for goverment e-services, SingPass. This is needed at the point of checkout during redemption.

When making a booking, they will be able to choose the amount they want to redeem based on S$10 denominations.

A voucher code will then be generated for them to copy and paste into the checkout page in their SingPass account to obtain the discount.

These details on the redemption process and how the vouchers can be used were given by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) during a media briefing on Monday (Nov 23).

The Government earlier announced in August that it would set aside S$320 million for the SingapoRediscovers Vouchers, which were named after an ongoing S$45 million marketing campaign by STB to drive domestic spending and support the tourism sector, which has been decimated by the coronavirus.

On top of the S$100 worth of vouchers, all Singaporeans aged 18 and above with young relatives may also redeem up to six subsidised child or youth tickets worth S$10 each for attractions and tours.

The redemption period will run from Dec 1 this year to June 30, 2021.

For those who are not tech-savvy and require more help, there are 69 physical counters available at community centres, selected malls and SingPost locations where users can get guidance on the transaction process.

Individuals who require help setting up their SingPass account or resetting their login details may also get assistance at 53 community centres and four Central Provident Fund service centres.

Many of the booking counters and SingPass counters are co-located or located within walking distance of each other, STB said.

HOW THE VOUCHERS CAN BE USED

Individuals cannot stack or combine vouchers to make a single purchase, STB said.

For example, a family of four cannot combine their vouchers to make S$400 to book a single hotel stay.

Vouchers also cannot be transferred or sold to others for use.

Aside from preventing fraud, STB said that it also designed the vouchers this way in order to encourage Singaporeans to support as many tourism businesses as possible.

While the vouchers cannot be transferred, some merchants may allow patrons to transfer their redemptions to another person.

This would depend on the terms and conditions of each merchant, STB added.

Asked why STB chose to opt for booking platforms as a way for individuals to redeem the vouchers rather than work directly with the merchants, it said that this was the fastest, easiest and safest way to get as many merchants on board as possible.

This is because not all the tourism businesses, especially the smaller ones, will have its own online booking system for patrons to access.

Many Singaporeans will also already be familiar with many of these websites, so patrons can make their bookings and redeem their vouchers with ease.

The availability of pre-booking will allow merchants to be able to control crowds and capacity as well when adhering to safe distancing guidelines, it added.
