Slow response on first day of sign-ups for concession pass

SINGAPORE — With a month to go before public transport fares are set to go up, 400 commuters have signed up for the new adult concession pass on the first day of registration, said TransitLink.

The concession pass, aimed at heavy public transport users, will allow adult commuters unlimited bus and train rides at S$120 a month.

When TODAY visited two TransitLink outlets at Toa Payoh and Raffles Place today (Mar 6), traffic was slow and most commuters were either topping-up their EZ-Link cards or accessing other services such as the Park and Ride passes.

TransitLink staff, known as service ambassadors, were seen performing their duties in three-member teams at both outlets. Armed with clipboards, they handed out pamphlets on how the scheme worked and encouraged commuters to sign up for the pass online.

Online applications are processed in three weeks, while sign-ups at TransitLink offices take six weeks.

Fares for adults are set to go up by between four and twenty cents per trip from April 6 and it is estimated that 40,000 to 60,000 adults will benefit from these concession passes, which were announced in January along with a slew of enhancements to existing concession schemes.

Responding to media queries, TransitLink said it was running a series of advertorials in the local mainstream media to publicise the scheme.

Brochures have also been produced to share information on the Adult Monthly Travel Card scheme and how to apply for it. Commuters can get them at any TransitLink Ticket Office or visit the company’s website for more information and to apply for the pass online.
