SINGAPORE — Calling his move to dress up as a “killer clown” to scare passers-by “extremely stupid”, YouTube user Joel Wong has come out to say he is “sorry for his actions” and that he “will not repeat it again”.

In a video posted on Monday (Oct 31) night, the 19-year-old student claimed he was called up and interrogated by the police for the prank. The “higher authorities” have also asked that he remove the two videos he posted on Sunday.

In the six-minute-long video, he said: “It was stupid to do the prank, and I didn’t mean for it to have negative feedback.”

He also said: “If there is anyone out there whom I offended, I’m sorry. I’m not here to justify my actions…I’m just here to…give my side of the story.”

In the original video, the teenager had donned a clown’s mask with red hair and wore a white jacket which appeared to be stained with red paint. He jumped out to scare passers-by from behind bushes in a park or from behind a corner at an underpass.

The police said investigations are still ongoing for this case.

A spokesman said they received a call for assistance at Block 489C, Tampines Street 45 at 10.40pm on Saturday night. He added: “Upon arrival, the police engaged the parties involved and advised them accordingly.”

Admitting that his prank had “backfired”, the prankster said: “My goal/objective of the prank is to promote positivity (which I now smack myself in the face for). I wanted to make a viral video. I guess that was the only thing that I managed.”
