SINGAPORE — Starting next month, Singapore’s pioneer generation will receive top-ups of between S$200 and S$800 to their Medisave accounts every year for life.
But many still do not quite know what the Pioneer Generation Package is all about.
So some students in Hong Kah North helped to communicate the package’s benefits to seniors.
Some 300 students from Swiss Cottage Secondary School spent the first Sunday of their June holidays visiting elderly residents in Bukit Batok to explain the key benefits.
They also surveyed the seniors about what facilities and programmes are needed to make the estate more elderly-friendly.
Dini Afrina, a Swiss Cottage Secondary School student, said: “We face a lot of language barriers because we have different races talking to each other.
“So my friends and I, we try to talk to them in simple language so they can understand (the Pioneer Generation Package) better.”
Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Health and MP for Hong Kah North, said: “Very often, word-of-mouth is really the most effective way to help them become aware of the help schemes as well as understand these healthcare schemes.” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
