SINGAPORE — A taxi driver died after his cab caught fire along Seletar West Link early on Tuesday (March 31) morning.
The police were alerted to the incident at around 1.30am.
The ComfortDelGro driver, 58, was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic.
Photos allegedly of the incident, posted on the Facebook page SG Road Vigilante, show flames engulfing a vehicle on the side of a road.
The fire was extinguished by the SCDF using two water jets.
ComfortDelGro’s group chief corporate communications officer Tammy Tan said in a statement that the company was shocked and deeply saddened by the taxi driver’s death.
"Very little is known about the incident at this time and the exact cause of the fire is still unknown," she said, adding that the taxi driver had suffered burns when he was found outside the vehicle.
Ms Tan said that the taxi was three-and-a-half years old. It was last serviced on March 19 and no major issues were detected.
