SINGAPORE — The technical error that occurred on the Battlestar Galactica: Human vs Cylon rollercoaster at Universal Studios Singapore on Wednesday did not affect safety, so the ride resumed operating after the control system was reset, said the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on Thursday (April 7).

The error left riders stuck in mid-air on Wednesday afternoon, after causing the rollercoaster to come to a halt. Riders had to be evacuated from the lower section of the ride. The ride resumed about an hour later.

In response to queries from TODAY, a BCA spokesperson said: “BCA engineers have verified with RWS (Resorts World Sentosa) that the ride vehicle stopped when a technical error was detected by the safety control system.” The spokesperson added: “As the technical error did not affect ride safety, the ride resumed operation after the control system was reset.” The authority is not investigating the matter further.

When asked for more information regarding the technical fault, RWS was unable to provide any additional information and referred to its statement released on Wednesday.

The Battlestar Galactica ride has been plagued by technical problems since it opened. In March 2010, it was ordered to close for a week after the theme park opened, after a seat fell off during a routine safety test. No one was hurt. It reopened nine months later in February 2011, but closed again in July 2013 for a review. It finally resumed operations in May last year.
