SINGAPORE — Tottenham Hotspur footballers Harry Kane, Dele Alli and South Korean fan favourite Son Heung-min are set to feature at the National Stadium here in July. The English Premier League side announced on Tuesday (Feb 19) that the first team will travel to Singapore and Shanghai during the pre-season.

This is the first time that Spurs will be in Singapore since 1995, when they were beaten by the Lions 4-2 (1-1 full time) on penalties in front of 60,000 fans at the old National Stadium.

Led by manager Mauricio Pochettino, the Lilywhites are now third on the Premier League table behind Manchester City and Liverpool.

Aside from England captain Kane — who is out with an ankle injury at the moment — fans here can also expect to see World Cup winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, English defender Kieran Trippier and Belgian international Jan Vertonghen.

“We are delighted to announce that the Tottenham Hotspur First Team squad will travel to Singapore and Shanghai as part of their pre-season tour in July in preparation for the 2019/20 season” said the club in a statement.

“The tour will also enable the club to join in the centennial celebrations of global principal partner, AIA, whose roots trace back to Shanghai in 1919. The tour to both Singapore and Shanghai will form an important part of the Pan-Asian life insurer's centennial, with a 12-month programme of special events and activities across its 18 markets in the region having commenced in January.”

This is the first team’s maiden visit to Shanghai after previous stops in Beijing for the Barclays Asia Trophy in 2009 and a post-season fixture against Kitchee SC in Hong Kong in 2017. Spurs also played at the Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2015.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to travel here as one of the four participating teams in the International Champions Cup (ICC), to be played at the National Stadium in July.

Earlier media reports stated that English Premier League club Manchester United will also be part of the ICC line-up and talks are ongoing with Italian sides Juventus and Inter Milan.
