Town councils could take a page from condo management

Speaking to reporters on the side of the launch of iTown@SG — a smartphone app for resident feedback — Dr Teo noted that the idea behind town councils was similar to that of MCSTs, which was to encourage residents to manage their respective towns while promoting communal living among them.

He said town councils must also address residents’ expectations and how their services can better serve residents’ aspirations.

“But everything has to do with the level of services and the resources, the funding through our (service and conservancy charges) collection and also the level of town council services of stakeholders, especially our residents, to better manage and provide services for our town,” said Dr Teo.

He added: “What we want to do is encourage more engagement between town councils and the residents, and stakeholders, so that you can achieve a win-win-win arrangement in the years to come.” Ashley Chia
