SINGAPORE — A woman trying out a virtual reality (VR) boxing match at a shop in Suntec City became so immersed in the experience that she punched the television screen as she found it "too realistic”.

TikTok user “huasze” shared a video of her friend trying out a VR headset from VR company Pico on Tuesday (Dec 13).

Fully immersed in the VR boxing match while wearing a headset, the woman ducked a few punches before dealing some blows to her virtual opponent.

As her friends continued to cheer her on, the woman took a step forward and dealt a deadly blow — to the television.

While the woman was left unscathed, the television screen suffered a cracked screen.

In a follow-up video by huasze, the woman was shown being dragged away from the television “for her safety” after accidentally punching it.

The TikTok user said in the comments section that Pico staff members said that accidents like this happen often and that the staff were “nice” about it.

They did not ask the woman to pay for the damage and were concerned about whether she got hurt.

The video has since gone viral on TikTok, receiving 157,000 views within a day.

Though an unfortunate incident, online users saw a silver lining to the blunder.

“They need to pay you for the promotion of how good it is,” said one TikTok user, noting that the video was a perfect testimony to how realistic the VR game was.

Others were amused by the mishap.

“Girl just went into the metaverse to punch the living daylights out of the fighter,” one user joked.

Another asked the most important question: “Did you win?”

“Smooth transition from Virtual Reality to Reality,” teased another.

Those curious about the “realistic” VR game can find Pico at Suntec City till Dec 18, according to huasze.

The TikToker gave a plug to the VR game: “The game is called All-In-One Sports. Have fun but not too much 😉😂.”
