SINGAPORE — Two men were charged in court on Friday (March 16) with causing hurt using dangerous weapons in unrelated incidents.
The first man, Muhammad Hanafi Rahmat, 18, faces one count of voluntarily causing hurt with a black dagger, which had a 6.2cm-long blade.
Hanafi, whose occupation is not known, is alleged to have stabbed his victim — who cannot be named due to a court order — on his left lower back, using the dagger.
It is not known what triggered the alleged attack, which took place outside Club Fleek at Clarke Quay, on March 10, at around 2.30am.
The 25-year-old male victim was conveyed hospital in critical condition, the police said in a news release on Thursday night.
Hanafi was arrested on Wednesday along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, after extensive investigations led officers to establish his identity.
Hanafi’s case will be mentioned again on April 3. He was offered S$30,000 bail, and was ordered by the courts not to approach the victim.
Separately, 47-year-old Abdul Aziz Hussin was slapped with one count of causing hurt with a pair of scissors.
Court documents showed that on March 7, at around 1.25pm, Abdul Aziz was said to have used the scissors to stab a person named Sathivel Chandran on his left back, causing him to suffer minor injuries.
On the same day, at around 9am, the odd job worker had also allegedly hit a 62-year-old woman at Block 861 Woodlands Street 83.
He was arrested by police officers on Wednesday along Sims Drive. Abdul Aziz will return to court on March 29, and will be remanded in the Institute of Mental Health.
The weapons in both cases — the dagger and pair of scissors — have been seized for investigations, the police said.
If convicted of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, the two men could each be sentenced up to seven years’ jail, and/or fine, and/or caning.
