SINGAPORE — Two men were charged on Thursday (Oct 10) with firearms offences after the authorities found a loaded gun in one of the men’s Jurong West flat.

Muhammad Ikram Abdul Aziz, 24, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm while Amirul Asyraff Muhammad Junus, 25, was charged with consorting with a person carrying arms.

The pair, who are both suspected drug offenders, were arrested by the authorities on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

The police said earlier that they received information from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on Monday indicating that Ikram was in possession of a dangerous weapon.

The police, CNB and the Criminal Investigation Department — with support from the Special Operations Command and the Police Intelligence Department — then mounted a joint operation and conducted extensive intelligence probes.

Ikram was arrested on Tuesday at the void deck of Block 731, Jurong West Street 72.

Later, he was escorted up to his third-storey flat where a search was conducted.

It was then that the firearm — a Seahawk pistol — was found, court documents said.

Court documents showed that Amirul was aware that Ikram has had the pistol since February this year. Amirul was arrested on Wednesday at 2.25am along Woodlands Street 13.

Both men have been ordered to be remanded for a week at the Central Police Division for further investigations.

If found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm, Ikram could be jailed at least five years and be given at least six strokes of the cane. If found guilty of consorting with a person in possession of a firearm, Amirul is liable for the same punishment.
