SINGAPORE — Two of the victims involved in a car crash at Lucky Plaza on Sunday (Dec 29) were sisters, the Philippine Embassy said on Monday.

One of the siblings died while the other is in critical condition, Philippine Embassy charge d'affaires Adrian Bernie Candolada told TODAY at about 10.45am on Monday, adding that the embassy has reached out to the families of five of the six victims, all of whom were Filipino women.

“We are still trying to reach out to the family of one of the deceased. They are uncontactable at this time,” Mr Adrian said.

The police, who were alerted to the accident at about 5pm on Sunday, said that the victims were between the ages of 37 and 56.

They were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Among them, a 41-year-old and a 50-year-old were unconscious and later succumbed to their injuries, the police added.

Mr Adrian said that of the other four, two are in the intensive care unit and the other two are in stable condition.

He added that the embassy is in discussions with the employers of one of the deceased, to have her body repatriated to the Philippines.

“We can’t reach the employer of one of the deceased. We understand that they are still on vacation,” Mr Adrian said.

In a statement issued on its Facebook page on Monday, the embassy said: “The Philippine Embassy in Singapore and the Filipino community in Singapore are deeply saddened by the death of two Filipinos and injury to the four other Filipinos during the tragic accident at Lucky Plaza Mall yesterday.”

The Embassy, the Singapore Police Force and hospital authorities have cooperated to identify the six Filipino victims, who are all working in Singapore, the statement added.

"The Philippine Embassy in Singapore and the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila are fully committed to extend support and assistance to the victims' families.”

Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, the chairman of the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE), said in a statement that the centre is in contact with the Philippine Embassy and the authorities, and is ascertaining the urgent needs of the victims and their families so that assistance can be provided.

“Our staff have been at the hospital since the accident to link up with the employers of the injured workers, seek updates on their physical conditions, and provide assurance to the injured workers the moment we can gain access to them... the CDE will stand by them during this sad and difficult period.”

He added that CDE has received offers of donations to the affected workers from the public and will be making arrangements to run a public fundraising campaign.

Mr Yeo also urged members of the public to respect the privacy of the deceased and their families and not circulate photos or videos of the accident on social media.
