SINGAPORE — A 24-year-old Singaporean man has been charged in Australia, following a car accident on Tuesday (May 24), wherein five Singaporeans were injured, with two of them still in critical condition, said the Victoria Police.

The driver been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury and two counts of negligent driving causing serious injury.
The Victoria Police said that the driver is out on bail and that he is due to appear at Horsham Magistrates’ Court on Aug 24.
The five Singaporeans had been travelling in one car when they collided with another car, said The Wimmera Mail-Times in a report on Wednesday. The accident occurred close to the town of Laharum, which is near the Grampians National Park, a tourist attraction. Laharum is nearly 293km away from Melbourne.
Three women, all age 23, seated in the rear of the car were sent to hospital. Two were in critical condition — one had head and leg injuries; while the other had head, chest and spinal injuries, and required a blood transfusion. They were both sent to hospitals in Melbourne by air ambulance.
The third woman, who had neck and back injuries, is in a stable condition, said the report.
The driver and another female passenger, aged 23, seated in the front of the vehicle escaped with minor injuries, reported Channel NewsAsia citing Victoria Police.
In response to TODAY’s queries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that it was in contact with the five Singaporeans and their next-of-kin. The Singapore High Commission in Canberra has also sent officers to Melbourne to provide consular assistance to them, an MFA spokesperson added.
The driver of the other car, an Australian woman, did not suffer any injuries, according to The Wimmera Mail Times’ report.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
