SINGAPORE — Children aged 12 and below who are not immunised against Covid-19 may take part in masked indoor sports activities in groups of up to five, but must be from the same household, national sports governing body Sport Singapore (SportSG) said.

Its advisory on safe management measures for sports, physical exercises and activities was updated on Jan 27 to reflect new infection controls for unvaccinated children born in or after 2010.

The rules took effect from Feb 1 and is an expansion of existing requirements that unvaccinated children aged 12 and below taking part in unmasked indoor sports activities in groups of up to five must be from the same household.

For outdoor sports, regardless of whether they are masked or unmasked, unvaccinated children may play in groups of up to five and they do not have to be from the same household.

Anyone who is fully vaccinated and in the same group of five as the unvaccinated children need not be from the same household.

For children aged 12 and below who are vaccinated and playing in groups of up to five, they may also be from different households. They may take part in masked or unmasked sporting activities at indoor settings such as an indoor badminton court or indoor basketball court — in line with the general guidelines for fully vaccinated adults.

CLASS SIZES

Class settings involving unvaccinated children remain the same:

  • For indoor sport classes where people are wearing masks, multiple groups of up to five people in a group are allowed, but capped at up to 50 people, including the instructor, or up to the venue capacity limit, whichever is lower. Intermingling between the different groups is not permitted.
  • For indoor sport classes where people are unmasked, just one group of five is allowed, including the instructor or coach
  • For outdoor sport classes, regardless of whether participants are masked or not, multiple groups of up to five are allowed. There can be up to 50 people in total, including the instructor, or up to the venue capacity limit, whichever is lower.

The Ministry of Health announced last month that from Feb 1, all indoor sports facilities, institutes of higher learning as well as hotels, hostels and serviced apartments will have to do vaccination checks for people entering their grounds, as part of expanded infection controls.
