Wet weather to persist for rest of November with some intense thundery showers expected: Met Service
SINGAPORE — The wet weather is forecast to continue for the rest of this month, with intense thundery showers expected on one or two of these days, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said on Tuesday (Nov 16).

Wet weather in the second half of November 2021 is due to the monsoon rain band, which is forecast to continue to lie over the equatorial Southeast Asian region for the rest of the month.
SINGAPORE — The wet weather is forecast to continue for the rest of this month, with intense thundery showers expected on one or two of these days, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said on Tuesday (Nov 16).
MSS added that although the second half of the month is not expected to be as wet as the past fortnight, the overall rainfall for November is forecast to be above average over most parts of Singapore.
During this period, temperatures are forecast to drop as low as 24°C.
The wet weather is due to the monsoon rain band, which is forecast to continue to lie over the equatorial Southeast Asian region for the rest of November.
The agency added that the inter-monsoon conditions with “low-level winds that are light and variable in directions” are expected to continue for most of the month.
Towards the end of November, the winds are expected to gradually strengthen and shift to blow from the northeast or northwest.
In the upcoming fortnight, short-duration moderate to heavy thundery showers are expected over parts of the island in the afternoon on most days. They could extend into the evening on some of these days.
Thundery showers could be intense on one or two days as prevailing winds converge around the region surrounding Singapore.
“On a few occasions, convergence of winds from the southwest or west over the Strait of Malacca may trigger the development of Sumatra squalls (storm lines),” MSS said.
“The squalls are expected to bring widespread thundery showers and gusty winds over Singapore between the pre-dawn hours and morning as they move eastward toward the South China Sea.”
Daily temperatures are forecast to range between 24°C and 33°C in the second half of the month on most days.
The temperature may, however, reach 34°C on some days when there is less cloud cover.
