SINGAPORE — Residents of Bukit Gombak wanted a Community Club that is eco-friendly, with lush greenery and plenty of open space for them to interact, and now such a CC is in the works.

Their feedback has been weaved into the design of the new four-storey CC, which is being built at the upcoming Hillview Station on the Downtown Line. It will have features such as an inbuilt rain harvesting system to water plants in the CC, as well as a community garden on the fourth floor for the neighbourhood green thumbs to grow crops.

The CC, which will replace the void deck Bukit Gombak CC at Block 386 Bukit Batok West Ave 5, is expected to be completed in late 2016, and will serve about 45,000 Bukit Gombak residents. It will also offer more lifestyle options with programmes such as photography, pilates, ballet and eco-living.

Construction work has started, as more than 250 residents joined Grassroots Advisers Ms Low Yen Ling, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Dr Amy Khor and Mr Alex Yam at the CC’s groundbreaking ceremony this morning (May 9).

Mayor of South West District Low Yen Ling said: “We are looking forward to the many ways the new CC can develop our residents’ interests and become a centre where their passion and skills can flourish. It will become like a second home to many of us - a place where friendships and families, new bonds and fond memories, and meaningful experiences are formed.” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
