Workers’ Party MP Jamus Lim elected as Economic Society of Singapore council member
SINGAPORE — Associate Professor Jamus Lim of the Workers’ Party (WP) has been elected as a council member of the Economic Society of Singapore (ESS), the organisation said in a statement on Wednesday (July 22).

SINGAPORE — Associate Professor Jamus Lim of the Workers’ Party (WP) has been elected as a council member of the Economic Society of Singapore (ESS), the organisation said in a statement on Wednesday (July 22).
The economics lecturer at Essec Business School joins six other new members who were elected to the council during the ESS' annual general meeting on Wednesday.
In the recent General Election, Assoc Prof Lim and his WP team won the contest for Sengkang Group Representation Constituency.
During the election campaign, he received praise for his performance in a nationally televised debate among the four biggest political parties, where he had gone head-to-head with Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on economic issues such as the minimum wage.
The other newly elected members of the ESS are:
Mr Choi Kent, a team leader at private bank Credit Suisse
Professor Christina Soh Wai Lin, the dean of Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University
Professor Takahashi Satoru, the head of the economics department at the National University of Singapore
Associate Professor Tan Swee Liang from Singapore Management University
Mr Song Seng Wun, an economist at CIMB Private Banking
Mr Tanudjojo Franky, the managing director and head of international banking at Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore).
There are 36 members in the council.
Professor Euston Quah, who has been ESS' president since 2009, retains his position.
Established in 1956, ESS is a non-profit organisation that connects economists, business, and finance professionals in Singapore to discuss economic issues faced by Singapore and the region.
It counts Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, Professor Lim Chong Yah, former chairman of the National Wage Council, and Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat as its honorary fellows.
